Sergio Ramos matches Lionel Messi in incredible La Liga record

Sergio Ramos equalled Lionel Messi's record of scoring in 15 La Liga seasons as Real Madrid beat Girona on Sunday.

The Spanish defender opened the scoring with a panenka-style penalty as Los Blancos climbed to the top of the league with a 4-1 victory in their second game of the season.

The goal means Ramos has now scored in each of the last 15 seasons in Sapin — only Lionel Messi has managed that.

He is currently the 13th highest scorer in La Liga when counting only players who are still playing. And his 56-goal tally is 25 better than any other defender in the 21st century.

Madrid have made a strong start to the season, winning both of their opening two game.
