Rabiot open to joining Man City on free transfer

PSG star Adrien Rabiot is open to a return to Man City when his contract expires at the end of the season.

The Frenchman has less than a year to run on his existing deal with PSG and talks over new terms have stalled in recent months. Rabiot spent a year in City’s academy but left at the age of 14 as he was severely homesick.

City went to great lengths to help Rabiot during his time in the north-west but were understanding of his situation and allowed him to return to France with Pau.

However, the Frenchman has never forgotten City’s efforts to help him settle and he believes he’s at the right stage of his career to move abroad.

Rabiot is open to moving to the Etihad and he can even sign a pre-contract agreement with the club in January. City face competition from the likes of Barcelona and Juventus for Rabiot’s signature and, should there not be a breakthrough in negotiations, PSG could consider cash offers for the midfielder in January.

Though Rabiot has rejected 2 contract proposals from PSG, he has not ruled out staying at the club and will consider other offers before making a final decision. City, in the knowledge they can sign him for free 6 months later, are unlikely to bid for Rabiot in January and the move is likely to hinge on the midfielder’s desire of holding out for a move to the Etihad for free in the summer of 2019.
