Lozano would not be a smart buy for Man United

Man United are amongst the European clubs interested in signing PSV’s Hirving Lozano.

Lozano has begun the new Eredivisie campaign in the kind of form which saw him find the back of the net 17 times, and rack up a further 11 assists, in 29 league appearances last season.

His excellent performances last time out earned him a place in Mexico’s squad for the World Cup in Russia, where he played a starring, goalscoring role in his country’s historic victory over Germany. With 2 goals and 2 assists from the first 4 fixtures of the new season, Lozano doesn’t look like slowing down any time soon.

Given the 23-year-old’s recent record, it’s no surprise that some of the continent’s greatest clubs are sniffing around his signature. However, Man United should not be focussing their efforts and considerable resources on landing the winger valued at 27m pounds by Transfermarket.

Whilst Jose Mourinho’s squad at Old Trafford certainly requires investment, the recruitment of an explosive, wide attacker should be way down the Portuguese boss’ shopping list.

With the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard already on the Red Devils’ books, this is not an area of the pitch that United need to worry about strengthening.

Instead, the EPL outfit ought to focus upon bolstering their defensive contingent and injecting some extra creativity into the centre of the park. Signing Lozano would merely be papering over the cracks and ignoring the real structural problems currently inherent in United’s squad.
