Liverpool midfielder outshines Pogba and Kante with incredible statistic

World Champions France overcame the Netherlands 2-1 to go top of their Nations League group with goals from Kylian Mbappe and Olivier Giroud. However, there was a strong EPL presence in this game as N’Golo Kante, Paul Pogba, Virgil Van Dijk and Gini Wijnaldum all started for their countries in this key clash.

The midfield battle was one to watch and although Pogba and Kante managed to get the win in what was a night of World Cup celebration for the hosts, Wijnaldum also held his own in the Stade De France.

Even with all this talent on show, it was Liverpool’s Dutch playmaker who had his most solid game for the national side and achieved something that hasn’t been seen for The Netherlands in 5 years.  The Reds’ man who was the central player in a 4-3-3 for the visitors, managed to finish the game with 100% pass accuracy, completing every single one of his 36 passes he attempted in the match.

This sort of ball retention has been key for Jurgen Klopp this season who has partnered Wijnaldum with James Milner and Naby Keita at the start to this season. With Jordan Henderson returning to full fitness, it will be interesting to see which player drops out, if any, for the influential England man.

Liverpool travel to Wembley on Saturday for the big clash of the weekend as Klopp’s men look to continue their perfect start to the season. Spurs will go ahead of their visitors with a convincing win, as both teams look to win their first EPL title this season.
