Liverpool ‘eye’ move for Sampdoria midfielder Lucas Torreira

Liverpool have reportedly identified Sampdoria midfielder Lucas Torreira as a possible transfer target this summer.

Jurgen Klopp is keen to bolster his midfield options after seeing an injury crisis in that area threaten to scupper his side’s chances of success towards the latter stages of this season, with Trent Alexandre-Arnold being deployed as an emergency central midfield on a couple of occasions.

The Reds have already secured a deal to bring Naby Keita to the club this summer, but they are expected to lose Emre Can at the end of his contract and Alex Ox-Chamberlain will miss the start of next season through injury.

Gazzetta dello Sport claims that Torreira is on Liverpool’s radar following a campaign which has seen him score 4 goals in 38 appearances for Sampdoria.

The 22-year-old form has earned him a place in Uruguay’s squad for this summer’s World Cup, but Liverpool could face competition for his signature from Napoli.

The Serie a runners-up are considering replacement for Man City target Jorginho, and are also understood to have earmarked Torreira as an option.
