Eriksson to take Iraq job?

Former Lazio, Roma and England boss Sven Goran Eriksson could be about to take over the Iraq national team, according to reports.

The Swede is currently a free agent, having left his most recent role at Chinese club Shenzen last month.

The 70-year-old has held advanced discussions with the Iraqi FA in Istanbul.

It is hoped that a deal can be struck by next week, which would see Eriksson installed as boss in time for a friendly with Palestine on August 4.

Eriksson famously won Lazio’s second and most recent Scudetto on the final day of the 1999-2000 season.

In a nomadic career, he has also coached Man City, Leicester and the Mexico and Ivory Coast national teams.
