Chelsea are ready to step up their
interest in signing Stoke star Jack Butland, according to reports.
Butland has made 88 appearances
for Stoke since his debut 2013 but the 25-year-old is expected to move on the
summer after the Potters were relegated from the EPL.
With Thibaut Courtois understood
to be Real Madrid’s top goalkeeping target, Chelsea are scouring the market for
possible replacements. Roma shot-stopper Alisson is wanted by both Chelsea and
Liverpool but the Brazilian would reportedly demand a fee of around 79m pound.
The Daily Mail suggests Butland has emerged as a more economic
option ahead of the 2018/19 campaign.
It’s claimed the Blues made enquiries about Butland earlier this season to
discover the potential availability of the England international. Stoke will
demand at least 30m pound for Butland, a fee which would break Jordan
Pickford’s British record for a goalkeeper.
Asked about his future earlier this week, the Englishman responded: ‘I’m
contracted to Stoke. I’m really looking forward to this summer and the World
Cup is the main part of that. What will be will be, I don’t have anything in
the pipeline and there’s no focus on that at the minute.
