Arsenal closing in on 35m pounds deal for Freiburg defender Caglar Soyuncu

Russia World Cup 2018 countdown—2 DAYS

Arsenal are moving quickly to improve their defence this summer and Freiburg’s 35m pound-rated defender Caglar Soyuncu is close to becoming the Gunners’ next signing.

The Turk’s agent confirmed talks are progressing well between the two clubs and a deal looks increasingly likely.

The 22-year-old is regarded as one of the best young defenders in the Bundesliga, having made 55 appearances since joining Freiburg in 2016.

His performances have seen him linked with a move away from Germany and the Gunners’ head of recruitment, Sven Mislintat, has long been an admirer.

Soyuncu’s agent Mustafa Dogru told Turkish Football: “Mislintat has been keen on Caglar since he was at Dortmund.

Arsenal have already added veteran right-back Stephen Lichtsteiner to their ranks after he signed from Juventus on a free transfer.

The Gunners are also understood to be interested in Sampdoria midfielder Lucas Torreira and a deal for Dortmund’s Sokratis Papastathopoulos should be finalised soon.
