Ander Herrera set to quit Man United for Spain in January

Ander Herrera is on the verge of leaving Man United in January with Athletic Bilbao the favourites to clinch his signature.

The cultured midfielder is on the outer at Old Trafford and was linked with a move away from the club during the summer. His contract expires next summer and the feeling is that United will look to sell the player rather than let him leave on a free in the New Year.

Herrera is willing to listen to offers. They say the players wants to stay at Old Trafford but is frustrated that the club have failed to offer him a new contract.

He cost United 28m pounds from Bilabo back in 2014 and since then he has made more than 100 appearances for the club. In November last year, he activated a 12-month contract extension. He was a regular under former boss Louis van Gaal and also his first signing as United manager but his opportunities were limited when Nemanja Matic was signed by Jose Mourinho from Chelsea last year.

While Bilbao are favourites to re-sign the player, a number of MLS clubs would be interested in recruiting the player who recently played in defence for United when they were soundly beaten 3-0 by Tottenham Hotspur.

Herrera is well liked by the majority of United fans and his versatility has proved useful in recent years. However, it appears time is running out for the player who evidently has no shortage of potential destinations.
